About

The Immigration Legal & Advancement Program’s Study Abroad Program for the summer 2024 is aimed for DACA recipients who are eligible and have secured Advanced Parole travel authorization for education purposes. Our Summer Session is a mandatory one-week study program that promotes cultural diversity and identity exploration through academic lectures, excursions and hands on experiences. Two weeks will be available for individual self-study projects.

ILEAP will be travelling to Guanajuato, Mexico, a world heritage city known for its cultural and student community.

Dreamers will have the opportunity to learn of the political, educational and linguistics systems through this educational program. The program will consist of the following:

  • A seminar learning about the Mexican/ U.S. border and immigration law/policy.
  • Tour of University of Guanajuato
  • Participate in a workshop on traditional Mexican cuisines.
  • Workshops/ group sessions with a clinical therapist and psychiatrist for identity exploration and learn healthy coping mechanisms in navigating imposter syndrome.
  • Group excursions to historical sites such as Dolores Hidalgo, mines, and others
  • Exploration of the arts: particularly tradition pottery and “callejonadas” (Guanajuato alley walking tour/show)
  • Independent Studies assignment. Students will be allotted time to partake in an activity outside of the group. Topics/ venue will be discussed with program directors.

This program works to guiding Dreamers to learn and get in touch with their cultural background that helps to promote diversity and leadership in their community.

Program cost:

$4200

Payments of $1400 due on 12/8/23, 1/31/24, and 3/8/24

Program will Include:

1. Educational Courses

2. Hostel stay for duration of 1 week program in Guanajuato and some meals

3. Educational Guided Excursions to historically significant locations with travel included

4. Culinary, arts, and mindfulness experiences

5. Advanced Parole consultation and application preparation by Immigration attorney ($575 USCIS fee not included)

6. Travel Preparation meeting with attorney and organizers.

1. Fill out Application Form

2. Fill out Attorney intake form (emailed to selected applicants). An immigration attorney will review eligibility for the travel document, Advanced parole.

3. Accepted applicants must pay a deposit by deadline for registration into the program. Space in the program is limited.

4. Registered participants will have the USCIS application prepared by an experienced immigration attorney. The $575 USCIS fee is your responsibility. Registered participants must also obtain a valid passport from their countries consulate prior to program date.
